Counting the Omer, Day 45 (Six days to Pentecost)
- “Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in” (Ps. 24:7).
- “Therefore your gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day or night, that men may bring to you the wealth of the Gentiles” (Isa. 60:11).
- “The key of the house of David, I will lay on his shoulder; so he shall open, and no one shall shut; and he shall shut, and no one shall open” (Isa. 22:22).
Opening and Closing Doors
Thank you for praying for us on this Malaysia trip. It’s a real treat having my grandson Jamie (who is nearly fifteen) with us. He assures me he is having fun. The first three days we went into the interior (i.e., the jungle) and had to use a motor boat for the final leg of the journey. But it’s not all adventure. I’ve asked him to prophesy to people and have been surprised/blessed at the accuracy and impact of his words.
So far, we have ministered in six different places (and have one more to go). One of the themes the Lord keeps giving us is about opening and closing doors.
The key to this teaching is Psalm 24, where the gates are told to “lift up their heads and be open.” When they do this, the King of Glory enters. He is strong and mighty in battle. Whenever I go to a new place to reside or minister, I lay hands on the door posts and command the gates to open up so that the Lord can come in. I then spiritually cleanse the hotel room I am staying in. I also do this in most churches I minister in. My team or I will pray at the main doorway, and then we are assured that demonic hindrances and obstacles are being driven out by the King of Glory who is strong and mighty in battle. Sometimes, the Lord will even confirm with visible signs. I was at a certain church in a certain nation—it wasn’t my first time there, but on this particular visit the meeting seemed so heavy. The next night, the Holy Spirit reminded me to go and lay hands on the doorway. When I returned to the auditorium, it almost took my breath away. It seemed like the room had gone from being dimly lit to being ablaze with light.
Thus on this trip to Malaysia, several times the Lord had us explain and then lead people in this. It’s important to realize that physical doorways actually represent spiritual doorways (the psalm says “everlasting doors”) These doorways affect three areas:
First is the doorway into our personal lives (Jesus actually “stands at the door and knocks” [Rev. 3:20]), which we usually take to mean He wants to fellowship with us. But since He is the Lord strong and mighty in battle, as well as the Captain of the Hosts, we can and should expect Him to attack hindrances and strongholds that may be troubling us.
The second doorway is into our homes/families. We can command those gates to lift up their heads and ask the Lord into our homes and then drive out any darkness that might be there. He will either show us specifically or sometimes He’ll just take care of things and suddenly we’ll know there has been a shift. We shouldn’t limit this to our dwelling places, but should think of ourselves and our homes as being a spiritual doorway to our extended family. Pray, “Lord, we invite you to enter; wage strong and mighty battle against all hindrances so that each family member can be saved. Amen!”
The third doorway is into our sphere or assignment from Him. This could be our place of work, our business, or our ministry. Of course the devil loves to infiltrate. He wants to hinder and steal from us. So, I think it’s crucial that we pray this prayer from time to time. It seems to me that whenever you feel an obstacle or feel problems piling up, it’s time for this prayer.
When you pray, take the following steps:
- Command the gates to lift up their heads.
- Ask the King of Glory to enter.
- Confess any sin the Holy Spirit may show you.
- Drive out demons or demonic hindrances.
- Speak or prophesy God’s intended blessing.
The Lord wants us to keep the gates open to Him continually so the wealth of the nations can come in (see Isaiah 60:11).
Closing the Gates to the Enemy
I think it’s pretty clear that these gates are to be open continually to the Lord. On the other hand, we do need to close them against the enemy. Some weeks ago a prophetic word was released about praying over our borders (of our lives, ministries, etc.). Until then, I admit to not being very conscious of the need for this. But when I heard that word, I knew deep in my spirit just how very important it is.
Satan is a thief and a robber. He wants to come in and steal the harvest and reward. He wants us to be poor and oppressed. Several times on this trip, the Holy Spirit led the entire meeting in such a way that we could decisively shut the door to the devil and put a stop to his activities of stealing destiny.
God bless you as you pray these prayers.
Thanks for praying.
